school, he graduated from the McNair county school No. 8, then attended Danville College in Indiana and
Vincennes University Academy. In the 1890s he taught at the Black Oak and McNair Or #8 country schools.
In 1898 Ed fought as a Ist Lt. in the Spanish American war and
in Cuba he contracted malaria and chronic
dysentery. In 1900 he homesteaded in Oklahoma where he sold land and insurance, and later was a deputy
sheriff in the violent Anadarko area. He returned to Wabash County, IL and Ed was married on Easter
Sunday, 14 Apr 1909 to Essie Josephine McJilton, who was born 18 Mar 1877 in Lancaster, IL. to father
Dr. Edward Levi McJilton. (Dr. McJilton was born 2 Jun 1842 in Green Co. Ohio; he was a Civil War
veteran who witnessed Lee's surrender, later he worked his way through Ohio Medical School. Dr. McJilton
died on 29 Oct 1888 after going on a house call during a severe sleet storm. He left behind his widow,
Essie's mother, Maria Higgens McJilton, 11-year-old Essie and a motherless niece, Susan Lamoffe, they
were raising.) Essie was well-known for her musical ability, her flower gardens, and her devotion to her
family and church, she died 12 Aug 1962 in Tucson, AZ at age 85 at the home of her daughter Mary Esther;

5.1.1.3.1. F. E. Crum, Jr., stillborn 16 Mar 1910.
5.1.1.3.2. Edward Anthony Crum, born 3 Feb 1911 on the farm in the northwestern part of Wabash Co, IL; rode a
horse 4 miles into Lancaster to attend high school. Worked his way through the University of Illinois
during the depression and majored in Agriculture. He was an excellent sportsman and competed in the Big
Ten University wrestling finals in 1933. Married 8 Jun 1935 to Mabei Berger who was born 15 Feb 1912
in Ziegler, IL to Edwin Berger and Alwilda Waldren, died 29 Jun 1988, in Champaign, IL. In 1940
Edward entered active duty with the Army Air Corps, and served various locations including commanding
the 58th Fighter Squadron in Alaskan Aleutian Island, and eventually was a Personnel Officer to the
Republic of Korea Air Force. He retired in 1961 with the rank of Lt. Colonel and became a guidance
counselor and wrestling coach in the Urbana, Jr. High in Urbana, IL; died 6 Aug 1990 at age 79;

5.1.1.3.2.1. Edward Waldren (Wally) Crum, born 4 Feb 1937; graduated West Point in 1960; married 2 Feb 1962 to
Teresa Jane (Terri) Baker of Albuquerque, NM. who was born 4 Feb 1937; Wally was killed in action in
Vietnam in 6 Feb 1968 during the TET offensive, buried at Ft. Leavenworth Military Cemetery;
children: (

2) Michael Anthony Christian, (
3) Heather.
5.1.1.3.2.1.1. Holly LeaAnn Crum, born 15 Nov 1962, married David Brian Martin on 11 Jun 1988 in Salt Lake
City, UT.
5.1.1.3.2.1.2. Michael Anthony Christian Crum, born 25 Oct 1965, killed in a car wreck, 9 Jun 1967, in
Brookfield, MO, and is buried at Ft. Leavenworth Military Cemetery.
5.1.1.3.2.1.3. Heather Lee Ann Crum, born Mar 30 1968, in Salt Lake City, UT. Married on 2 Apr 1992 in Salt
Lake City, UT, to Talbot (Tally) Heber Lloyd, born 18 Jun 1968. Children (
