Families descended from William Corrie in Clunie, the early years One of the oldest memorial stones in Terregles churchyard is horizontal, of grey sandstone, and at ground level; and it is difficult to read, but not much more so now than it was a century ago. After removal of moss, parts of the inscription can be read with certainty on a sunny day, as transcribed in gravestone data item 2 on page 1 WILLIAM CORRIE in Clunie died between 1700 and 1717; his age and therefore birthdate is not known since there appear to be no records available other than this memorial. It seems certain that William had two sons. (1) John, and (2) Alexander. Remember that Names in upper case have an assumed Corrie surname. 1. JOHN, eldest son was born about 1663 (by calculation from gravestone data item 3), farmed Terreglestown. This is now just one farm but at one time comprised a small village, and traces of the main street remain among the cottages It is flat arable land about a mile east of the church, whereas Clunie is situated half way up a steep hill about a mile southwest of the church.
