5.1.8. HARRIET ESTELLA (STELLA), born 14 Oct 1865 in Camden, IL; baptized 14 Oct 1865 at Rushville,
Schuyler Co, IL; married in Rushville 1 Jan 1890 to Edward Wm. Moore who was born 2 Jan 1862 to Charles
and Amanda Moore; Stella died (most likely of a ruptured appendix) 2 Dec 1895; Edward died in 9 Mar 1938;
one daughter (
1) Gertrude Hazlett (Hazel).
5.1.8.1. Gertrude Hazlett (Hazel) Moore, born in Rushville, IL 6 Jul 1895; was only 6 months old when her mother
died, she was raised primarily by the Moore family; her father never remarried, he came from a big family,
11 brothers and sisters located primarily in the Rushville, IL area. "Grandma Amanda Moore was not much
good at orderliness," (according to the 1975 letter Hazel wrote to Eva Corrie (ref.
1.1.5.4.5.1.4.1.) "but
she had a happy house. The Moores were a big family in a big house. Besides her own children, she had me,
a hired man and a hired girl to cook for. She made peach and apple butter, jams, cider and apples from two
orchards, butchered 8 to 10 hogs at a time, cared for a smoke house filled with hams and bacon and dried
beef hanging over hickory fires. In addition to her family, sometimes poor relatives dropped in to stay a
week or more until Grandma got tired of them, and the preacher came to stay a month of revival meetings. I
always had to eat chicken wings for the preacher's family got the best pieces. I've never cared for
preachers or chicken since those days. l was six months old when my mother died and I made the thirteenth
child Grandma reared. Hazel also spent many happy times with Aunt Maggie Corrie (ref.
1.1.5.4.5.1.6.);
several of Maggie's incredible handmade quilts are still owned by the family (including one treasured by
Virginia Corrie-Cozart); Hazel married Charles D. Howk; she died 23 Jan 1989 at the age of almost 94
years; one daughter, (
1) Mary Jane (Jane).
5.1.8.1.1. Mary Jane (Jane) Howk, born 24 Dec 1927; married 18 Aug 1951 in Pasadena, CA to Thomas Robert
Eliason born 5 Oct 1927 in Portland, OR to Carl Leonard and Mae Eleanor Eliason; the family enjoys
camping, hiking and other outdoor activities; Jane volunteers as a docent with the Fresno Zoological
Park; address 5555 # ### #####, ######, ## 55555; children, (

5.1.8.1.1.1. Robert Grant (Bob) Eliason, born 4 Dec 1953; married 30 Dec 1987 to Mearlene Rounsaville, a flight
attendant and supervisor, and a home decorator, she has a son (
1) Paul R.; Bob is an attorney,
graduated from Berkeley University, attended Columbia University and went to law school in San
