![]() The Rev. Ezra Corrie and his tiny daughter Margaret. From Mary Janice Strong (ref. 1.1.5.1.8.4.3.1.1.) | in Sumner, Lawrence Co, IL; at the age of 11, he went in a covered wagon with his family from Illinois to Mingonia, KS, two years later they moved to Isabel, KS., where he grew up on the family farm. He worked on the Sante Fe Railroad during summers to earn money for college; Ezra first attended Southwestern College in Winfield during which time he met Mary Francis Swim during harvest at her brother William's home near Isabel. They were married 22 Jun 1905. Ezra committed himself to the ministry and completed his seminary studies in 1906 at Garrett Theological Seminary in Evanston, IL; he held appointments in the Methodist Episcopal Church in Illinois and in various places in Kansas. He died of a brain abscess in Jetmore, KS 18 May 1935 at the age of 59; funeral services were held in his previous charge of Lewis, KS, with burial among his friends in Wayne Cemetery, Lewis, KS; following Ezra's death, Mary lived with their daughter Margaret and died 10 Jan 1960 at age 79; one daughter (1) Mary Margaret (Margaret). |
