Mary Ann (Polly) Moore is the little girl in the center with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Silas Moore. The young faces of all those in the photograph already show the strain of the hard prairie life. Polly's marriage to Thomas Newton Corrie and her death just one year later, a sorrow repeated by many an early family.

married first 1869 Mary (Polly) Ann Moore, his first cousin and daughter of Silas Moore, Polly was born circa 1848, she died in 1870 just a year after their marriage and is buried in Bell Cemetery (middle of the old Foss farm 1/2 mile west of Bethlehem United Church of Christ, 7 miles south of Sumner, IL); Thomas was deeply saddened by Polly's death and secreted away a small box with a locket, a wedding ring and a cuff link that surfaced years later when his youngest son Frank found it. The family presumed that Nancy loved Thomas so much she wanted to be considered his only love and did not tell her children of his first marriage until Frank found the box. Thomas Newton married secondly 2 Mar 1871 to Nancy Miranda Edmondson (Nan) who was born 6 Dec 1849 in Bridgeport, Lawrence Co, IL daughter of Wiley Manson Edmondson who was born in 1823 in Tennessee and Sarah Ann Parrott who was born 1827 in Indiana, both are buried in Olive Branch Cemetery near
