8.2.3.2. HARLIN M. (Harley), born 22 Mar 1891; died 6 Apr 1968 age 77, married Maggie C. Shafer; buried in
Bell cemetery.
8.2.3.3. EVALINE (ELVA), born 28 Apr 1894 to James and Lavina Peters; Elva used to walk about three miles by
kerosene lantern light at 4:30 a.m.. to the Bethlehem church to light the wood and coal stoves, it was a
treat to ride back home in a rickety wooden wagon. Elva stated when she was 97 years old, "Now days people
have medicine, air-conditioned cars and gas heat but can't seem to make it to church. They got time for
everything but the Lord." Elva married first Luther Jones in Jun just a short time before he left to
serve in World War One, he was killed just three weeks before the Armistice was signed in November;

Unknown Lewis; and they lived and worked hard on their farm "We raised everything we ate,
we had our own wheat and made our own flour, there was corn, all kinds of good vegetables, hogs, cows,
chickens and milk to drink with them."; Elva was an accomplished needle-woman making quilts and doing
embroidery work; as she grew older she said she felt "like an old tree sitting off in the field alone for
I have outlived most of the people in Lukin...so it gets kind lonesome around here sometimes..." Elva died
5 Sep 1991, and is buried in Ridgley cemetery; she had one son (
