Story about Thomas Chester Corrie as a small boy, from Isabel, KS newspaper Sunday, July 5, 1914 Didn't Find His Papa At a few minutes past twelve o'clock Saturday, a very small boy could have been seen trudging slowly down the middle of the road past the hotel as he came into town. The sight was so unusual that the little boy soon attracted lots of attention and some one went and met him and carried him up the street. There was a lively discussion as to whose boy he was. The little boy himself would not say a word and all efforts to induce him to talk were without avail. At last those present came to the conclusion that he looked a great deal like the small son of Mr. and Mrs. J.F. Corrie, but no one was sure. A call by telephone disclosed the fact that Mr. and Mrs. Corrie had missed their son Chester about thirty minutes before he arrived in town, and that they had been hunting all over the place for him. Mrs. Corrie had worried herself into a state of nervous prostration, and as the doctor went out to attend her he took Chester out home. About eleven thirty that forenoon, Chester, who was playing out in the yard, went to the house and asked his mother if he might go and meet his papa coming down the road. The lad did not wait however, but slipped off down the road, and as he did not meet his papa, kept on walking along the road which finally brought him into town. He was not over thirty minutes in walking the distance from the Corrie farm to town. This is a good twenty minutes walk for a grown man. He did not seem to be at all tired when he arrived. He failed to meet anybody on the road, which is accounted for by it being near the noon hour. Little Chester is a sturdy boy for his age and seemed not at all frightened at being lost. He had no doubt enjoyed the walk which caused his parents so much anxiety during the time he was gone. It was a wonder he managed to reach town as there are several roads by which he could have turned off before arriving.
