[[I'm interested in friends suggestions or additions.]] Safety, since the lab is connected to the house: Welding Plasma setup/prep: Close the basement door and the sliding garage door. Open at least one of the back doors and prop it open. Uncover the lower fan in the fan bay and switch it on, Close the door to the emergency exit/vault/fanbay. if at all possible turn another fan on just at the back doors too. Wear appropriate autodarkening helmet. Wear enough leathers/gloves to avoid burns, A full set of leathers and steel toed boots and gloves is available and recommended. Make sure the gas cart and any lose gas bottles? (shouldn't be any) are away from the welding area. Welding: Make sure all welding is done in the airstream of the fan(s) Under no circumstances weld Chrome, Cadmium, Lead, Berylium or ? or coated with ?. Bare steel, Use the MIG welder flux core (in wirefeed only) to save on expense if at all possible. Or use the large old arc/stick welder. If weld quality is important use the TIG welder. Zinc or Tin coated steel, Use the MIG welder flux core (in wirefeed only), and the smaller auxiliary fan to blow the fumes away from you the welder. Alternately weld just outside the big doors. Stainless, Use the MIG welder with shielded gas, or the TIG welder. Aluminum, Use the TIG welder. Plasma Cutting: Under no circumstances point the end at anyone. Under no circumstances draw the cutting over your fingers or someone elses. Be sensitive to the coil of the lines and don't let the cutter get away from you. Welding/Plasma cutting teardown/cleanup: Move any welding gas bottles back to the bottle cart and secure with chains. Leave welder on for 10-15 minutes afterwards to help with cooling. After 5-10 minutes turn off auxiliary fan and any fans in the back door(s), and close the back door(s). Turn off the fan(s) in the fan bay, and put the covers back on. Open the basement/lab door, and slide the garage door partway open. Thanks TimF for the suggestions.
