LED (Light Emitting Diode) is electrically identical to a normal diode, with a side effect that light is generated at the PN junction when foreward biased, LEDs are now available in everything from Infrared to Near Ultraviolet (as of 2004). The Materials used include GaAs GaAsP GaIn SiC.
